Anti-fatigue mats: ergonomics starts at floor level

Many underestimate how challenging prolonged standing can be. Hard, non-flexible floors force muscles, joints and the spine into a static position for hours. The consequences range from sore feet and calves to tension, back discomfort and reduced concentration: the body quite literally becomes "tired from standing".

Today, anti-fatigue mats are used in a wide range of environments, from checkout areas in retail to kitchens and service areas in hospitality, through to laboratories, workshops, production halls and even offices. For a mat to deliver the desired effect, it needs to fit the environment. In kitchens, for example, it should be moisture-resistant and easy to clean; in laboratories, chemical resistance may be required; and in industry, particular robustness is essential. Selection criteria thus include application area, material, slip resistance rating, surface structure and cleaning effort.
